weighing in

Despite being a lazy bum, which is includes my absence from the blogosphere, I do every so often (which is not very often) take quick moment to reflect on something that has happened, to over analyze a situation or just make a life changing decision. Just the other day I took one of these rare moments to “think” and made a huge decision. No longer will I lay my lazy butt on the couch when I could be doing something useful. No longer will I scrounge around the kitchen looking for snacks just because I am bored. No longer will I come home from work and be a lazy bum! It is time for a major lifestyle change.

For anyone who has known me longer than 3 years, you know that in the three years since I’ve moved to glorious Northern Virginia (*cough*cough with sarcasm) that I have gained a whopping 25lbs! Now if I was a 6-foot tall stocking guy 25lbs would be nothing, but on what used to be a “petite” 4’11” frame it is an astronomical difference. Don’t get me wrong, I am not one of those “oh my gosh I’m so fat I need to starve myself till you can see my ribs” girls. But let’s be honest folks…you all look at me and think “geez she has let herself go!”. I am only 25, yet I have the metabolism of a 60 year old male couch potato, but as I write this post I am vowing to put an end to it. I will not starve myself or go on any crazy outrageous fad diet, but change my lifestyle. I will eat smaller portions, drink more water, and best of all “move” more. Exercise is key to my success to finally lose some weight.

I don’t have grand dreams of fitting back into those cute pink size 0 chinos that I wore the summer I lived in Richmond, but I want to get to a healthy weight. I have been telling myself for 3 years, since i first starting gaining the weight that I was going to change my lifestyle and get healthy, but I would do it for a week then fall off the wagon. This is why I am blogging about it. I want everyone to know and hopefully support me. I figured what better way to get motivated and to keep myself on track than to post it on the internet for everyone to see.

Starting this weekend I will be taking a weekly picture of myself to put on the blog to hopefully show my transformation to lose 25 lbs by football season. My goal is lose 25 lbs before the first VT football game of the season.

In 2005 when I graduated from VT I was a whopping 115lbs, which for me was large, now I stand….wait for it…. at a grand total of 139lbs (according to my scale this morning). I believe at one point close to Christmas I actually weighed in at 141lbs! I jumped from a size 2 to a size 8.

Hopefully by finally admitting to my weight gain I can get the motivation I need to really do something about it. I am counting on all you, my friends and family to keep me in check. If you haven’t heard from me on the blogsphere in a while maybe a simple “are you eating mcdonald’s right now?” message will give a kick in the butt. I am really really really hoping to stick with this and make a difference in my life, not only to lose the weight, but to live healthier and happier.

Weight: 5/8/08 – 139lbs Goal by 8/30/08 – 115lbs

Ok….gotta go take a lap around the office then toss my soda and find some water to drink…….
